Twenty-four racers from Quad A for Kids after-school programs traveled to Akron, Ohio in May to compete in the National STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Competition. On June 8th, 71 Quad A students competed in the local race at Lakeshore Boulevard at Durand Eastman Park.
Our winners ...
Marcellus Griffin from School 2 came in first place at both the Akron National STEM Race and the local race. He will be representing Quad A in the Stock Division at the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship taking place the week of July 14th-20th in Akron, Ohio.
Mi Amour Watson from School 4 came in second place both at the Akron National STEM Competition and the local race.
Pheonix Smith from School 34 took first place in the Super Stock local race and will be competing in the that division at the World Championships the week of July 14th-20th.
Both Marcellus Griffin and Pheonix Smith qualify for a $5,000 scholarship to Rochester Institute of Technology.
2019 World Championships
Marcellus Griffin from School 2 and Pheonix Smith from School 34 competed in the World Championships in Akron the week of July 14-20. Marcellus placed 9th after winning one of the heats, a first for Quad A participants.
